Supporting Tables for
Figure 5.2 in chapter 5 describes the degree of descriptive representation of African Americans in five types of school districts. To create this graph, we ran separate regressions for five types of school districts: those that used wardbased elections in both 1987 and 1992, those that used at-large elections in both years, those that switched from wards to at-large, and those that switched from at-large to ward, and finally those that used appointed systems in both. In each case, we regressed the percentage black in the community on the percentage black on the school board. The results are reported in table A5.1.
