Managerial Roles:
The "Action"
Satellites

The purposes of Part IV of this book are to discuss the roles that a manager must assume while in a management and leadership position. The "action" satellites involve content in management. Parts II and III have presented how managers should work. Part IV focuses on those roles that managers must embrace.

The five roles that are covered in this book—change facilitator, teacher, team builder, interviewer, and performance appraiser—were selected because they are the most basic roles in leadership. The chapter topics are not meant to include all of the possible roles that encompass a manager's position. However, they are the predominant roles.

Consistent with the preceding chapters, a conceptual framework is provided in each of the five satellite areas in Part IV. Each chapter focuses on the basic concepts and theories, recognizing that education in this area should be ongoing and continuous through the lifespan. The experiential exercises at the conclusion of Part IV are aimed at putting life into the presented words.
