'Later' refers to a period of time of any duration between the assessment of attachment and the subsequent assessment of functioning.
A particular difficulty exists regarding the inclusion of disorganised attachment in ongoing longitudinal studies. The identification and assessment of the disorganised/disoriented category is a relatively recent development in attachment theory and research and was not included in longitudinal studies which commenced some time ago.
