The greatest obstacle
even to discovery is not
ignorance-it is the illusion
–K. P. GERLACH
In contrast to part 3, which focuses on classroomlevel assessments that teachers can design and implement on their own, the chapters in this section focus on large-scale assessment initiatives at the district, state, and national levels. In each case, the assessment basics introduced in chapter 7 were used to formulate and develop the assessment plan.
Although none of the initiatives described in this section completely addresses all the NETS•S performance indicators, each covers a significant range of technology skills and knowledge. When coupled with other measures of technology performance, the data generated by these large-scale assessments can go a long way toward completing a student's performance profile.
