This Appendix provides checklists to help stimulate and guide situation analyses useful for understanding and doing each phase of multinational strategic alliance development and implementation. They supplement the best practices guidelines given at the end of Chapters 2–6 and summarized in Chapter 7. Given the wide range of possible multinational strategic alliances, not all questions apply in all situations.
The checklists are divided into five sections, one each for Chapters 2–6. This Appendix is intended to provide a quick reference resource – a handy summary perspective of the book and of the multinational strategic management process.
The following checklists assist in analyzing the initiating partner's profile and marketing position, the existing and anticipated industry and competitive market conditions, and the profiles of the other partners. These analyses provide a comparative basis for matching strategic and operational requirements and determining the strategic fit, and for suggesting ways in which a strategic fit might be developed. They also provide a basis for partner matching and selection and for negotiating as the multinational strategic alliance process continues.
