Final Deliberation

The planning committee must come up with a final priority listing. Short of unanticipated largesse, there will be a line below which plans will not make the cut for funding and support. Before dooming a plan to ignominy, there are at least two ways to save it. The first is to combine it, or at least elements of it, with similar plans that have a higher rating. The second is to phase it in over a longer time than originally proposed.

Through creative editing, the planning team can combine parts of action plans that do not receive high enough ratings with a highly rated plan. Although this should be done only when such an addition is seen as strengthening the accepted action plan, it serves a multitude of purposes. It tends to show the planning committees that there are certain shared themes or unities. It allows a particularly exceptional step of an otherwise lowly rated plan to be adopted. Finally, and most important, it tells the committee that wrote the action plan that its thoughts and work are valued.


Initiating the Action Plans

Once we have vetted our action plans and initiated them, we need to give more thought to the method of analysis we intend to employ. This would be a good time to bring the action plans to the attention of our supervisors. Since they have to direct their attention to the measurement of student outcomes,
