Class mantra

A class mantra often helps, especially if the children make it up, for example ‘Everyone in this class looks out for each other.’ ‘Everyone is really important.’ ‘We don’t need an anti-bullying week because none of us are bullies.’ ‘We are all different – hooray!’


Scoring goals

Children are asked to make their own goals and decide whether these have been achieved. If the children say they have made no progress, then this admission scores an own goal (or the ball goes over the back line) and the child can try again or choose another football. Alternatively, if one child is hampered by another, he or she is awarded a penalty. This can mean giving some extra time or having another football or goal to replace the original choice.

Resources: On the wall, draw a football goal. Each child cuts out a paper football and writes (or the practitioner scribes) a goal for today or this week, whatever is appropriate.
