Implementation

Over the course of the entire visual management development process, a structural system that ensures the ability to achieve the results you want is created or enhanced. Particular attention is paid to the physical plant itself and to the availability of appropriate space for visual displays. As you move forward, you will continually assess the visual cues and determine whether you are connecting the employees to the mission and to the customers. You will also continue to periodically assess whether you have created an environment that celebrates employees, customers, and other stakeholders in ways that enhance your ability to sustain excellent performance. Yet, now that you have a framework, a color scheme, and important data from your physical audit upon which to build your visual systems, it is time to take action to make management visual.

Let’s start by looking back at the process road map in Figure 5-4. As we saw in Chapter 5, the initial phases of visual management primarily involve planning and assessment activities: building the team, developing the mission, and creating a solid foundation from which to create a true visual management organization, moving through the bottom half of the road map. Now it is time to move into the upper half of that road map: inspection and alignment, customer and em-
