ACTIVITY 62
Communicating Across Functions
How well your organization’s departments work together is key to making service “magic” happen. One of the biggest challenges in cross-functional work is communicating effectively. Consider the following points to improve communication between organizational partners:
Priorities: What is important to me/my work group at any given point in time
Roles and Responsibilities: What I believe to be my job and the tasks I perform
Listening: How well I hear, understand, and incorporate the messages that come at me
PURPOSE:
✓ To identify priorities in the work of the department
✓ To assess how department priorities fit with those of internal partners
TIME: 30 minutesDIRECTIONS:
1. Explain to participants the need for consistent and coordinated internal service.
2. Distribute copies of Activity 62. Ask participants to take time in answering the questions. Allow 10 minutes.
