New College is an Anglican college affiliated with the University of New South Wales, Sydney. In 1986 the college set up a trust to conduct an annual series of public lectures. The lecturer is asked to take up some aspect of contemporary society and to comment on it from the standpoint of their Christian faith and professional experience. The inaugural lectures were given in 1987 by Professor Malcolm Jeeves of St Andrews University, Scotland, and in subsequent years lecturers have come from Australian and overseas universities, as well as the wider community.
