In American society, money is power. Men are groomed to understand and respect the links between power and money -- they join clubs, pay dues, make significant donations, sit on boards that allocate funds, write budgets, and sign checks. Americans donate $125 billion a year to universities, churches, museums, social service, political, and public interest organizations. And while 60% of donors are women, men still firmly control the institutions that dispense money to charities, civic, and social causes.
