6. Rose at 7 o'clock and read neither Hebrew nor Greek. I said my prayers not till I came to church. I ate chocolate for breakfast. We went to church, from whence Mr. Anderson,1 Captain Stith2 and his wife, Captain F-c and Mistress Anne B-k-r3 came [with] us to dinner, who all went home in the evening. Daniel4 came from Falling Creek5 where all things were well and the sloop almost loaded. I said my prayers. I had good health, good thoughts, and good humor all day, thanks be [to God] Almighty. This day I learned that my sister Duke6 had miscarried.
7. I rose at 7 o'clock and read a chapter in Hebrew and 200 verses in Homer's Odyssey. I said my prayers and ate milk for breakfast. I sent a boat and two hands to Appomattox7 for the pork. Daniel returned again to Falling Creek this morning. I ate nothing but beef for dinner. I read French. I walked about the plantation in the evening. I said my prayers. I had good thoughts, good health, and good humor, thanks be to God Almighty.
