JAMES L. MERRINER is a former political editor and columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and Atlanta Constitution and has covered national politics since 1975. In 1996 he was the James Thurber Journalist in Residence at Ohio State University. He is the author of Mr. Chairman: Power in Dan Rostenkowski's America ( 1999).
THOMAS P. SENTER is a practicing physician in Alaska. A free-lance writer, grounded in both precise research and public affairs, he previously collaborated on The Black Seminoles ( 1996). A former V.A. Clinical Scholar in the combined UCSF/Stanford Robert Wood Johnson Program, Senter has been active in health care reform in Alaska. He was also the state coordinator for the Ross Perot campaign of 1992 and the former finance chair for a U.S. Senate challenger in 1996.
