BILL PHIPPS has spent most of his career teaching at a liberal arts college in West Virginia. He is Professor of Religion and Philosophy and Chairman of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Davis and Elkins College. He is a graduate of Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He received his Ph.D. in biblical interpretation from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Dr. Phipps writings over the past two decades have focused on the relationship between religion and sexuality. Among his books are Was Jesus Married? and Recovering Biblical Sensuousness. His articles on this topic have been published in the New York Times, the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Christian Century, Theology Today, Pastoral Psychology, Presbyterian Survey, Journal of Religion and Health, Journal of Ecumenical Studies, New Testament Studies, and Studies in Religion.
