SUSAN A. HELLWEG is a Professor in the Department of Speech Communication at San Diego State University. She has published more than forty articles, chapters, and monographs, her work appearing in such journals as Central States Speech Journal, Communication Quarterly, Communication Reports, Journal of the American Forensic Association, Journal of Business Communication, Management Communication Quarterly, Public Productivity Review, Southern Speech Communication Journal, and Speaker and Gavel. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Applied Communication Research, Management Communication Quarterly, and Western Journal of Speech Communication.
MICHAEL PFAU is Professor and Chair of the Department of Speech Communication at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He has published more than thirty chapters and articles, appearing in such journals as Argumentation and Advocacy, Communication Education, Communication Monographs, Communication Quarterly, Communication Reports, Communication Studies, Communication Research, Human Communication Research, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Western Political Quarterly, and others. He has co-authored two previous books, Debate and Argument: A Systems Approach to Advocacy, with David Thomas and Walter Ulrich ( 1987), and Attack Politics: Strategy and Defense, with Henry Kenski ( Praeger, 1990).
