Taken as a whole, results showed that deaf people can perceive motor anticipation when trying to understand a complex movement sequence in sign language. Although relying mainly on implicit knowledge, this ability suggests the possibility that in sign language the processing of visual information is mediated by information relating to spatio-temporal rules subserving motor production. This interpretation is consistent with that putting forward in other activities like handwriting ( Orliaguet et al., 1997) or speech perception ( Abry et al., 1994).
