Waddington, William Henry
William Henry Waddington, 1826–94, French statesman and archaeologist, of English descent. Waddington was minister of education (1876–77) and was appointed foreign minister in 1877. He represented France at the Congress of Berlin (1878). In 1879 he headed a cabinet but was soon replaced by Charles de Freycinet. Waddington served as ambassador to Great Britain from 1883 to 1893. He wrote several works on archaeology.
