Social Responsibility Urged on Business

The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP) called yesterday on firms to become constructive partners in nation-building and to exercise corporate social responsibility as it gears up for the 24th National Conference of Employers (NCE XXIV) on May 22-23 with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as keynote speaker.
Businesses should observe corporate social responsibility and should be seen as such by other organized sectors of society trade unions, non-governmental organizations, church, political parties, ECoP President Donald G. Dee said.
Business and the nation must unite in preserving, strengthening, modernizing and creating jobs and industries for all, he said.
The EcoP president said the government should help create and sustain an enabling environment for business to prosper such as fair rules which apply to all, a secure business environment, a bureaucracy which provides business-friendly services, a judiciary which metes out fair decisions within a fairly reasonable period, availability of essential insfrastructures at reasonable prices, industry-focused support from the education and technical-vocational skills development sector and institutionalized system of dialogue and consultation on fundamental issues affecting business.
ECoP is a firm believer of corporate social responsibility, and it makes good business sense to promote corporate social responsibility, Dee said. …
