Nurse: Patient Knocked Me out; Yellow Card System Is Introduced to Combat Abuse of Hospital Staff

A PETITE North Wales nurse yesterday told how she was knocked unconscious by a burly young farmer.
Sister Chris Lockwood, who is just 4ft 11 in tall, revealed how the drunk took a swing as she tried to help him in the A&E department at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
``He just didn't know what he was doing. But the following day his mother made him come back to apologise,'' she said.
Chris, who has worked on the unit for 12 years, outlined her unsettling experience as Assembly Health Minister Jane Hutt visited Bodelwyddan to officially launched a Contract of Care scheme.
It is aimed at protecting staff,patients and visitors in the Conwy and Denbigh NHS Trust.
``Because of my height most men were OK towards me. But in recent years things have changed and I've had my thumb dislocated and my hair pulled out,'' she said.
Under the new scheme patients and visitors deemed to be misbehaving at any Trust premises will first be approached by a member of staff and given a chance to explain their conduct and modify it. …
