Beekeepers' Harvest Thanksgiving
ONLY in Northern Ireland is there a regular Harvest Thanksgiving Service for Beekeepers, writes David McCoy.
This year The Ulster Beekeepers' Association will gather in Dromore Cathedral on Sunday, September 28 (6pm) for its annual service.
People, many far removed from the land, will pack churches over the Province in the next few months for harvest services. "Let's have one packed church to celebrate the honey harvest,'' urged a UBKA spokesman.
"All beekeepers, their friends, all who eat honey, and their friends plus everyone else, will be most welcome.''
He said that the cathedral would be decorated in an appropriate fashion and there would be a cup of tea afterwards. "Canon Brian Blacoe will preach the sermon and beekeepers will be taking part in the service.''
Meanwhile, an intermediate beekeeping course is being planned.
Organised by the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, it is aimed by those people who have successfully passed the preliminary beekeeping course and who want to advance their knowledge and understanding of beekeeping. …
