THIS summer saw the launch of a new look support service for anyone seeking business advice, whether an established company or someone looking to start up on their own the Business Gateway. It's an expansion of Scottish Enterprise's Small Business Gateway but with some major additions.

No longer is it just a service designed to help small companies or start-up businesses. It's now designed for all businesses right up to multinationals employing hundreds of people.

The Business Gateway brings together the range of organisations providing business support around the country under one banner.

Customers can now see what's on offer whether from enterprise companies, local authorities, chambers of commerce or any other business support agency all under the one roof.

``For the first time we can claim to be taking a true partnership approach to business support, '' said Scottish Enterprise's director of small business services, Terry Currie.

``At the launch in July we had representatives from the Scottish Executive, Federation of Small Business, local authorities and the CBI all of whom are going to be actively involved in the new venture.''

The Small Business Gateway has been phenomenally successful since its launch three years ago helping more than 22,000 start-ups.

The Business Gateway idea came from Local Economic Forums saying that duplication and confusion over business support services was a major issue for the business community.

``This new service demonstrates that together the public sector is listening, responding and adapting to the needs of the business community, '' said Mr Currie.

``We are building on our successful track record over the last three years by combining existing services and extending support to larger firms.

``The aim is to provide high quality, easily accessible services, and an end to the duplication between different public agencies.''

Although still offering tailored support to start-ups, any one of the 48 local Gateways around the country can now put together a package of support specifically for larger companies. …
