Bosses Urged to Snap Up Talent

MANUFACTURERS in North Wales were last night urged to hunt down and nurture local talent before it disappears.
A leading academic appealed to bosses to take advantage of the wide variety of innovative designs being developed by his students.
John Hughes, design and technology director at the University of Wales,Bangor, spoke out ahead of next month's Tomorrow's Wales exhibition. He urged industry bosses to wake up to the fact that local talent was disappearing out of the North Wales economy and over the border into England.
This week the university received news that a Wiltshire-based company had decided to give the go-ahead and further develop a device created by a former student. Mr Hughes teaches design and technology to student teachers at the university's Normal site,and says this is just the latest in a long line of ground-breaking innovations designed by his students,but developed outside Wales.
``Whilst we have welcomed support from local initiatives, we are keen to encourage further support from our local companies,'' he said.
``Our students seem to be taking their innovations beyond Wales for support where manufacturers are willing to nurture new talents and test the marketing and job creation values of their ideas. …
