Preview: Creating a New Mythology of Wales; Writers' Workshop Trinity College, Carmarthen Wednesday, 2.15pm
Byline: Karen Price
BUDDING writers will be able to tap into expert advice and guidance at workshops to be held at Trinity College, Carmarthen.
The first workshop, which lasts for almost three hours, takes place on Wednesday.
The events will be run by Sgript Cymru, Wales' new national writing company which aims to develop work by Welsh and Wales-based playwrights and promote it, whether in English or in Welsh, to as wide an audience as possible.
Experienced and fledgling writers are encouraged to attend the workshops.
The company believes that for Welsh theatre to thrive, it must explore multiple Welsh identities rather than restrict itself to a single face.
Simon Harris, Sgript Cymru's associate director, recently said, 'I want to escape a climate where a play is thought to be saying 'this is Wales', with all the attendant pressure and incompleteness.
'Instead, we need to give rise to a range of new archetypes, fresh voices expressing the true pluralism and diversity of the country. Only then will we be creating a new mythology for ourselves.'
The workshops will be part of the season of Mary Lloyd Jones Lectures being held at the college. …
