AOPA 2004 Max Karant Awards for Excellence in Aviation Coverage recognize fair and insightful coverage of general aviation (nonscheduled, nonmilitary, civilian aviation). Four $1,000 awards will be given for print, radio, television-program length and television-news or short feature categories. Works published or broadcast between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2003, will be judged by a panel of aviation and media professionals. No entry fee. Postmark deadline; April 15, 2004.

Awards for Best In-Depth Reporting on Religion

The American Academy of Religion (AAR) honors best in-depth reporting on topics related to religion (broadly defined). Three contests: writing at large news outlets, writing at small news outlets, or opinion writing. Winner of each receives $500. Submit five articles published the previous calendar year. Entry fee: $25 per contest. Most judges are current or former journalists. Affiliated with Emory University, the AAR is the world's largest association of academics who research or teach topics related to religion. The AAR neither endorses nor rejects any religious belief or practice. Annual deadline: February 28.

The ASA Media Awards are presented annually by the American Society on Aging to journalists whose work has significantly increased general public awareness of aging issues at either the local, regional or national level. The ASA Media Awards are designed to: 1. Recognize and encourage accurate and informed news coverage of our aging society. 2. Improve media understanding of the current and future impact of aging on Americans of all ages. 3. Increase public awareness of the various life circumstances of older Americans.
