The lawsuit is being taken out by the family of Patsy Ann Byers, a Louisiana woman who was shot and left paralysed during a robbery attempt within a year of the film being released. The 1994 movie portrays a young couple who embark on a murderous crime spree.

In an attempt to emulate the movie couple, played by Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson, they murdered a Mississippi businessman and then attempted to kill Byers, it is alleged.
The lawsuit seeks damages against the directors, producers and distributors of the film after the attack at a convenience store in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, in March 1995.
It claims they should be held responsible because they made a movie that was meant to make those who saw it violent. …
