Not Everyone Is Wild about Takeaway's 'Zoomenuoo' Kangaroo and Crocodile Just Some of Exotic Meats on Offer

CARNIVORES in search of gastronomic adventure can sample crocodile and kangaroo in a Valleys restaurant and takeaway.
Three cousins have banded together on a mission to create one of the most interesting meat menus in Wales.
JJ's, near University of Glamorgan halls of residence in Treforest, offers customers the atmosphere and cuisine of an Italian restaurant, as well as the opportunity to sample shark and chips and other even less-common servings.
Andrew Townsend and Gavin and Jason Akers are delighted with the popularity of their exotic menu among students and locals.
But vegetarians deplore the presence of ostrich and frog on the menu.
Wildlife conservation student Elwyn Sharps visited JJ's this week.
He said, 'To use wildlife as meat seems very, very wrong. It was quite a shock, to be honest, seeing meat like that on sale in some takeaway.'
A spokesman for Viva (Vegetarians International Voice for Animals) said that while he deplored the sale of 'exotic meat', it was entirely possible to sell such creatures legally.
Mr Townsend's response to people upset at the use of kangaroos for food is, 'What about Percy the Pig?'
All the animals were humanely farmed, he said.
And the cousins are hoping to expand the menu to include more species.
Mr Townsend said, 'Ostrich looks extremely like steak, and it's cholesterol-free.
'We sell lots of frogs' legs. We want to get rattlesnake. We are trying to get horse.
'My favourite is kangaroo. Kangaroo is quite sweet, like a steak.'
They have discovered that some of the most striking creatures do not taste that unusual.
Gavin Akers said, 'Crocodile has a fishy texture. It's nice.'
Shark, he said, 'has a little bit of a bite to it'. He compares the taste to that of halibut.
Zebra is expected to be added to the menu within two months.
Supply problems have frustrated the creation of a unique Christmas menu. Mr Townsend said, 'We did try and get camel and reindeer.'
Mr Akers explained that they created their expansive menu to give the establishment a unique identity. …
