Arroyo Inaugurates P7-B Reclamation, Road Projects

CEBU CITY President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo inaugurated here the R7-billion South Reclamation and South Coastal Road projects near the boundary of Talisay City.
These projects are expected to speed up the economic development of this city.
Arroyo was accompanied by City Mayor Tomas Osmena in the inaugural ride across the 300-hectare complex that culminated at the mini Kawit Municipal Hall which serves as the administration building on the erstwhile Kawit Island where a brief ceremony was held.
Kawit Island was used to be occupied by the Bureau of Quarantine until it was absorbed by the reclamation project and subsequently became part of mainland Cebu.
The SRP though was completed during the time of former mayor Alvin B. Garcia without the physical facilities such as street lightings, drainage canals, power house, security, fire and administration edifices.
Because of the lack of these facilities, the inauguration was delayed until after the south coastal and access road portion of the project was finished by the national government.
Paul Villarete, City Hall project director, said the coastal highway would be initially open to light traffic on selected basis in accordance with the guidelines to be issued by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). …
