You Say: Education Action

I WRITE in response to your front page article and editorial of July 6.
We have spoken to a number of head teachers who are shocked at your negative reporting. They have the highest opinion of the integrity of the Education Action Zone director and staff and of the contribution the EAZ has made. Some specific points: n Financial management of the EAZ is in the hands of its governing body, the Action Forum, attended by all headteachers. Spending is regulated by the Df ES and audited annually by the National Audit Office.
n Research and professional development for staff is normal in educational organisations and adds to their effectiveness.
n Attendance rates in Toxteth schools have risen faster than in other local schools through the work of our team, mainly local people who have been trained and often progressed to permanent, professional positions as a result of their experience with the EAZ.
n Much of our staffing is paid for from external funds drawn into the area by the EAZ. …
