Orange Park Man to Lead Florida VFW

An Orange Park man is now heading Florida's VFW, making him the first in North Florida to hold this post in nearly 20 years.
A.E. Gene Hall is the new state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Florida. Hall retired after 34 years in the U.S. Navy as a commander at Jacksonville Naval Air Station and an aviation maintenance officer. For a dozen years, he served as commander, or quartermaster, at VFW Post 7909 on Blanding Boulevard in Jacksonville. He resigned recently to run for the state office because he said he wanted to be the spokesman and point man for the "great organization."
Hall said the VFW and other military fraternal organizations that provide community service and aid to widows and orphans are more important than ever in these days of war.
"Never has there been a greater need for the services we provide," he said.
Billy Moore of Lake Asbury, Hall's chief of staff, said he expects Hall to be a fine leader. The two will spend much of Hall's one-year term on the road, visiting Florida's 23 VFW districts. …
