Asian Pacific Publishers Association Holds Its 12th Publishing Forum at the Historic Manila Hotel
The Asian Pacific Publishers Association (APPA) begins its 12th publishing forum today at the historic Manila Hotel on the theme "Government Intervention: Survival of the Book Publishing Industry as a Tool for National Development."
The association, constituted by APPA member associations from 16 countries, will welcome delegates from Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea.
In line with the objectives of the APPA to address the need to develop the publishing industry within the geographical area of Asia and the Pacific by encouraging mutual cooperation and exchanges among the member associations, this years theme focuses on government policy creating an environment to encourage local book publishing and to contribute towards creating a reading public among the countrys population. Government intervention, among other steps, would consist of incentives for locally published textbooks and trade books and more liberal and less cumbersome procedures for the importation of needed capital equipment for printing and for supplies. …
