Dist. 211 OKs 13 Foreign Exchange Trips

For the second year in a row, Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 will be saying "bon voyage" to some students.
The district's school board Thursday approved 13 foreign exchange trips for next summer.
As is the case each year, Superintendent Roger Thornton stressed that the district reserves the right to cancel any of the trips to ensure the safety of their students and staff.
While acknowledging the wonderful educational opportunities foreign exchange trips offer, Thornton said the district remains very concerned about students' safety while overseas.
"We will not place our students in danger," Thornton said.
Approved trips for the 2005 summer include French and German exchange trips at all five high schools in the district, to cities such as Strasbourg in France and Berlin, Munich, Krefeld and Wilhelmshaven in Germany.
Other trips approved Thursday were Spanish exchange trips at Palatine, Conant and Hoffman Estates high schools to La Fortuna and San Jose, Costa Rica.
All the trips will be preceded by similar exchanges from foreign students who will have spent between two and three weeks at a district school during the year. …
