Activities in Area Middle Schools Give Students a Great Head Start

One of the things that continues to astonish me, from my observations on the job, is how far along schools have come since I was in those shoes.
Take the area middle schools, for instance, where plenty of extracurricular activities are available to stimulate various interests in young pupils. I didn't have those choices in middle school, and I didn't have a lot to choose from in high school. That head start in life really makes a difference in helping kids decide what they want to do when they grow up. I know some adults that are still trying to figure this out, it's not good.
Another example of how that head start is working is the recent announcement by the village public relations department that it would work with Wheeling High School students to create programming for cable Channel 17. Again it's a great opportunity and a step in the right direction.
