Mersey Professor Moves to Set Up `City of Ideas' in United Arab Emirates
A LIVERPOOL-BASED company is helping one of the world's richest oil states to encourage entrepreneurs.
Professor Tom Cannon, CEO of research and regeneration consultancy Ideopolis, based in Rodney Street, has been heading the campaign to attract new creative talent to the city.
He is now discussing the potential for developing an international Ideopolis - or ``city of ideas'' - in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He recently met with Sheikh Daib Bin Zayed Al Nahayan of Abu Dhabi to explore the opportunities for new entrepreneurial companies across the UAE.
Professor Cannon said: ``It is amazing to see how Abu Dhabi has grown, so far by using its vast oil wealth.
``It is equally clear that the UAE is determined to reduce its dependence on oil revenues. The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince is especially interested in the use of knowledge based industries to achieve sustainability. ''
The visit coincided with a major economic 20:20 Vision summit in Dubai, with speakers including former US president Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. …
