Job Rotation a Winning Opportunity All Round

TRYING to gain experience for a job in order to secure one can often leave people in a spin.

However, a new initiative launched this week by the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) aims to tackle the classic experience-employment catch 22 dilemma that hinders so many who are unemployed.

Job Rotation is an innovative new scheme which allows employees of firms and unemployed to acquire new skills simultaneously. Existing employees can avail of a range of continuous learning courses, while unemployed candidates will step in as a substitute for staff released on training leave.

Already 15 firms in Northern Ireland, from hotel groups to Call Centre businesses, have signed up for the scheme, welcoming the two-tier solution.

The scheme by WEA, Northern Ireland's largest community-based provider of adult education, also gives existing employees the opportunity to advance up the skills ladder by undertaking additional training, and for management, it allows investment in staff development and motivates employees.

Job Rotation will initially cover the Greater Belfast area but will be rolled out province-wide in the future.
