Creativity translated into regional awards for two Lake County libraries.
The Wauconda Area Library was named Library of the Year by the North Suburban Library System, while the Cook Memorial Public Library in Libertyville picked up the group's Innovation Award.
The North Suburban Library System is a consortium of academic, public, and special libraries in north suburban Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties.
Focus, creativity, and collaboration earned Wauconda this year's top honor for projects such as an e-newsletter received at least once a month by more than 2,000 community members, and providing hands-on computer training to area residents.
"It's a very nice honor that has fallen upon us," said Tom Kern, the library's director. "We feel that we are being recognized for the high quality of our services given the size of our staff and budget."
An online feature designed to help people research their family trees and local history earned Cook Memorial its prize.
