PNP Sarge in 'Hot Water' for Twin Slayings
A police sergeant assigned in Cebu City is likely to face court for killing a surrendering robber and accidentally shooting to death a fellow policeman two years ago.
The Deputy Ombudsman for Military and Other Law Enforcement Offices (OOMOLEO) is recommending that criminal charges be leveled upon Senior Police Officer 4 Juanito Pajantoy over the deaths of his colleague Police Officer 3 Michael Sta. Iglesia Sarcol, and robbery suspect Omar Patino, alias "Felipe Obedo".
Both Patino and PO3 Sarcol were killed apparently after a shootout that happened on July 15, 2003 while lawmen were in hot pursuit of the suspected robber in Cebu City, a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) report said.
Quoting investigators, NBI Director Reynaldo G. Wycoco said Patino traded shots with pursuing lawmen as he was fleeing with the golden necklace of jeepney passenger, Jacqueline Sotto.
During the chase, SPO4 Pajantoy was said to be running immediately behind PO3 Sarcol, according to three witness testimonies taken by lawyer Reynaldo Esmeralda, NBI Special Task Force (STF) chief. …
