Eminent Cardiff University Academics Die Just Days Apart

Two eminent Cardiff University academics have passed away within days of each other. Professor Richard Whipp, the university's Pro Vice-Chancellor, died aged 50, on June 11, of cancer. John Gwynne Evans, the environmental archaeologist who retired from the university in 2002, passed away on June 13 aged 63.
Prof Whipp was instrumental in building Cardiff Business School's research activities over the past 15 years and latterly played an important role in the senior management of Cardiff University.
He arrived at Cardiff Business School in 1990 as professor of human resource management and led a range of research activi- ties in the area of public sector management and organisational reform, including a major Department of Health funded project into the management of children's homes, the main findings of which were published earlier this year in a book called Managing Resi- dential Child Care: A Managed Service (with Ian Kirkpatrick and Martin Kitchener). …
