Just Part of the Future Furniture
Furniture designers of the future were put centre stage as part of a forum for up-and-coming talent in the furniture industry.
The Furniture West Midlands event at Walsall's Bescot Stadium was part of a showcase to push forward the next generation of designers.
Supported by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, Furniture West Midlands was launched at the start of the year and is charged with flying the flag for the 2,000 businesses and 23,000 workers involved in the design and production of furniture in the region. In the UK, the furniture industry employs around 128,000 people in 7,400 businesses, it is also the second largest industry sector in the Midlands.
Nigel Griffiths, Minister for Construction, Small Business and Enterprise, congratulated the British Furniture industry on its continued excellence in design and manufacture.
Speaking in Birmingham at the Furniture Show, the UK's biggest trade furniture exhibition, Mr Griffiths said: 'The UK furniture industry is known for its talented designers and tradition of quality.
'The Government set up UKfirst and the Furniture Strategy Group to help maintain and boost the UK industry and provide a forum for sharing best practice and developing a long term strategy to success. …
