Lakers Run Wild on Crow Defense

Triangle Lake had all the answers for eighth-ranked Crow in a 66-28 Mountain West League football victory Friday.
After scoring on its first two possessions of the game, and taking a 14-0 lead into the second quarter, the Lakers had to bounce back after Gary Doughty scored on a 19-yard run that helped Crow draw within six points.
Triangle Lake's Keith Smith responded on the very next drive with a 35-yard run down to the Crow 2-yard line, setting up another Laker touchdown and taking the momentum away from the Cougars.
The Cougars refused to go away quietly, scoring two more times in the second quarter, including a 44-yard run by senior quarterback Andy Becker with 37 seconds left in the first half.
Crow came into the game with a 3-0 record and a stingy defense that had allowed just 16 points in the Cougars' first three games.
However, that defense was unable to stop Smith from completing 14-of-16 passes for 242 yards. Senior Jeff Richardson added 94 yards passing and 104 yards rushing for the Lakers.
"We still have some things to work on, but this was the best game we've played all year," Triangle Lake coach Tony Hammock said. "Our goal was to stop their (Crow) passing attack ... and we did."
After a good showing in the first half, the Cougars fumbled twice in the third quarter. The Lakers took advantage of the turnovers, scoring two more times in the third quarter and putting the game virtually out of reach.
"We came out in the second half and played tough football," Hammock said.
The Triangle Lake defense allowed only one touchdown in the second half, on a 69-yard pass play from backup quarterback Ansel Atkinson to Brad Evenson. Atkinson came into the game after Becker suffered a mild concussion late in the third quarter.
The Lakers finished with 336 yards passing and 246 yards rushing.
