Guingona Thanks Media for Coverage of Citizensa[euro][TM] Congress
Unlike President Arroyo who blamed media for its "bad boy image," former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. yesterday said he finds himself in alliance with the Fourth Estate, which he thanked for its continued coverage of the proceedings of the Citizensa Congress for Truth and Accountability (CCTA), also known as the "Peopleas Court," trying the President for electoral fraud, graft, and corruption.
Guingona, appearing at the weekly "Kapihan sa Sulo" news forum at Sulo Hotel, Quezon City, said that like him, journalists are only after the facts and issues, and they could not turn a blind eye to the misdeeds of the Arroyo government.
"I align myself with them (the media) because we are together in fact finding and fact reporting," said Guingona, head of the CCTA presidium hearing the poll fraud and corruption charges against President Arroyo.
At the same time, Guingona scored Mrs. Arroyo for always calling the CCTA a "kangaroo court."
"In the first place, itas not a court, itas a peopleas congress," Guingona said, as he explained that they are not going to render a verdict because they would only make a report, and it is up to the people to decide.
"We are simply looking at the facts adduced with evidence. We will not say sheas guilty because we will let the people make their own judgment," Guingona said. …
