Flintoff's Made a Preston Freeman; in Brief
ANDREW FLINTOFF was being honoured today by his home city of Preston.
Thousands of fans were expected to line the streets as England's Ashes cricket hero, who received an MBE in the New Year honours' list, was made an honorary freeman of the city for his part in last summer's victory over Australia.
According to custom, as a freeman Flintoff will be allowed to graze his livestock in the centre of the city. Other Preston heroes to have received the honour include footballer Sir Tom Finney and animator Nick Park.
Jaques denied ton on debut
PHIL JAQUES fell six runs short of a century on his one-day international debut as Australia were bowled out for 245 in their latest VB series match against South Africa in Melbourne.
Jaques was unlucky to be given out caught behind for 94 as television replays showed the ball came off his upper arm.
South Africa paceman Andrew Hall took four for 35 off 9.2 overs.
After 30 overs in reply, South Africa were 106 for three.
Thomas in mood for a cup shock
