A Catholic-owned hospital used by the stars is at the centre of an investigation that could rock the Church.
The private St John and St Elizabeth Hospital - known as John and Lizzie's - in London is used by some doctors who refer women for abortions, it was claimed.
A top-level investigation into the posh hospital by Catholic Peer Lord Brennan has been ordered by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, leader of the Church in England,
The probe was ordered after complaints that part of the hospital was sub-let to doctors who were referring women for abortions and prescribing the morning after pill.
The report is due to be finished within the next few weeks but last night a hospital spokesman said no abortions take place in the hospital. "Absolutely nothing goes on like that on site. But a doctor has a legal obligation to look after a patient's best interest and to act on a patient's request.
"In abortion cases the patient is referred elsewhere," he stated.
Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor, patron of the hospital, has now received draft details of the document.
In it, Lord Brennan concludes the hosptial is breaking its own ethics code and urges the Cardinal to stop its GPs from referring women for abortions and prescribing the morning after pill. …
