Durrant Headed for Region IV Hall

Dick Durrant will be inducted to the Region IV Hall of Fame on behalf of Elgin Community College.
Durrant served as athletic director, professor, baseball and basketball coach at Elgin Community College from 1961 to 1985.
He served his country as a physical therapy specialist in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy between 1952 and 1956, while stationed on the Navel Hospital Ship, the U.S. Haven.
Durrant became a sports pioneer as he developed the sports programs at ECC coaching successful basketball and baseball teams. He is credited with instituting physical education at ECC as well as organizing summer camp programs for youths in basketball, baseball, martial arts and cheerleading. He founded, developed and administered the women's athletic program, and also originated the annual Spartan Thanksgiving tournament.
Over 90 percent of Durrant's players received their degrees during tenure as coach. The Skyway Conference has an award in Durrant's honor that recognizes the top male and female student who receives the highest GPA over four semesters called the Dick Durrant Award.
