San Antonio, Texas, to Host 2009 Congress of Cities

San Antonio, Texas, will be the site for the 2009 Congress of Cities.
The action came during the Board of Directors meeting at last week's Congressional City Conference. San Antonio Councilmembers Christopher "Chip" Haass, Sheila McNeil, and Art Hall and Convention and Visitors Bureau Acting Executive Director Janis Schmees presented the city's bid.
The 1996 Congress of Cities in San Antonio drew the highest attendance ever for an NLC conference with nearly 4,800 paid delegates and more than 10,500 total attendees.
"On behalf of the mayor and the entire city council, it is my privilege to extend the official invitation to the National League of Cities to come to our beautiful city for the 2009 Congress of Cities," McNeil said after the team presented the convention center and hotel package, plans for host city workshops highlighting local programs, and the city's commitment to meet all the host city requirements."We are a big city with a small town feel, and we welcome the opportunity to host this conference."
