CUP HERO Tom Peterson struck twice as Town Green completed the double by lifting the Trisconi Cup with a 2-0 win over Pilkington at Burscough.

The under-11s Craven Minor League champions went close to taking the lead with five minutes played, when Elliot Peet tricked his way into the penalty area and whipped in a wicked cross that was cleared off the line by Ross Travis.

Pilkington created their first opportunity on 15 minutes when Jordan Grace played an accurate through ball to Jake Devine, but the striker saw his effort go wide of the post.

Moments later Devine nearly made amends for his miss when he took advantage of a loose back pass from a Town Green defender, but his low shot went agonisingly wide.

Peterson broke the deadlock with 17 minutes played when he collected a pinpoint cross from James McGregor and stroked the ball home from close range.

Pilkington were unlucky not to equalise before half-time, when Grace collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and fired a powerful effort wide of Phillip Ivens' post.

The second half started slowly and neither side created any chances until Town Green forced a corner on 43 minutes. Joe Doolan's corner kick found Peterson, but the centre-forward somehow shot wide.

Pilkington went close soon after when the ball fell to Andrew Ford just outside the 18-yard box, but the winger fired over. Peterson produced a goal of the season contender to put the game beyong Pilk-ingtons, picking up the ball on the right of midfield and lobbing Ryan Teeling.

Despite the two-goal deficit Pilkington refused to give up and were unfortunate not to score on 57 minutes when Michael Murphy's long range effort was well held by Ivens.

Pilkington were awarded a free-kick in the final minute after Jack Dean was fouled and Grace stood up to take, but the midfielder's curling effort went over the bar. Town Green were denied a third goal in stoppage time when goal scorer Peterson turned provider to set up Peet, but the left back saw his shot excellently saved by Teeling.
