Fascination with Fossils Paleontologist Wows Seventh-Graders with Show-and-Tell Tales of Exploration

Seventh-graders at Barrington Middle School Prairie Station got a peek recently at what life was like on Earth millions of years ago.
Paleontologist Paul Sereno paid the students a visit, bringing with him some of the actual fossils he has discovered around the globe in his many years of studying dinosaurs.
"He goes on these expeditions all over the world and brings back all of these exotic critters," said Sheryl Campen, Prairie's seventh-grade science teacher who has been arranging Sereno's visits to the school for the past seven years.
Sereno, a professor at the University of Chicago, co-founded Project Exploration, a not-for-profit outreach organization dedicated to bringing the excitement of scientific discovery to the public, in 1999.
"Its purpose is to put science into the hands of kids," Campen said of Project Explore. "They try to put exhibits where kids can see them free of charge. …
