Forum on Childhood Obesity Set

Medical experts and community leaders will host a free public forum about childhood obesity Tuesday in Libertyville.
The meeting, organized by local agencies participating in an effort called the Childhood Obesity Prevention Program, is designed to raise awareness of this dangerous health issue and to promote new ways to combat it.
"What has been going on has not worked," said Jim Schurr, supervisor of Libertyville High School's physical welfare department. "We need to do something different."
The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Libertyville High auditorium, 708 W. Park Ave. It will consist of a panel discussion and a question-and-answer period with pediatricians, a dietitian, a cardiologist and other medical experts.
Officials from Libertyville-area districts, the Libertyville parks department, the Lake County Family YMCA, Condell Medical Center and the American Heart Association formed the Childhood Obesity Prevention Program this year in response to the escalating health problem. …
