FVR Welcomes Probes on Fund, Smokey Mountain

Former President Fidel V. Ramos yesterday welcomed any congressional investigation on the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) fund for Filipino migrant workers and the Smokey Mountain controversy but reminded lawmakers to treat witnesses with respect.
In a press conference at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Dignitaries Lounge prior to his departure for Macau, China, Ramos said he welcomes the investigation on the OWWA fund controversy.
"I welcome the investigation in order to get the truth on the matter," Ramos, the head of a 70-man trade delegation to Macau, said.
However, Ramos said that should another congressional investigation on the matter be conducted, it would be the fourth involving the OWWA and Smokey Mountain issues in a span of nine years.
According to Ramos, investigations "in aid of legislation" regarding the OWWA fund and Smokey Mountain issue had been conducted in the past, but up to now, not a single legislation involving the matters had been passed. …
