Eminent Domain Might Be Invoked in Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect could be headed to eminent domain to obtain three properties in the downtown's small triangle.
"We're not accepting it," said Kathleen Meersman Murphy of the village's offer to buy the properties owned by the Meersman family. "So, I believe they'll take whatever steps they need to take."
Mount Prospect recently voted to acquire the properties, by condemnation if necessary, located in the area bounded by Route 83, Busse Avenue, Wille Street and Northwest Highway.
The village plans to see the area turned into a restaurant and entertainment district.
The three parcels include: 16 W. Northwest Hwy., the Meersman family's law office; 30 W. Busse Ave., which is currently leased to Josie's Barber Shop; and 34 W. Busse Ave., a parking lot.
Murphy said the village has been sent a response rejecting its offer, which she said is less than the $900,000 offered by Mount Prospect dentist Errol Oztekin, who plans to open Blues Bar, 2 W. Busse Ave. and is the lead developer in the triangle.
After receiving the offer from the village - which she would not reveal - Murphy said the Meersman family sent the village a proposal based on an analysis of the properties that were sold in the triangle. …
