The 2005 Maurice Holland Award: To Jay Paap and Ralph Katz


In recognition of the authorship of "Anticipating Disruptive Innovation, "deemed to be the best original paper published in RESEARCH-TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT in 2004.

The winning paper was selected for pertinence, significance and originality of new management concepts related to the field of research management.

Jay Paap is president of Paap Associates, a Newton, Massachusetts management consulting firm that assists corporations in their business and technology development efforts. He serves on the faculty of the Industrial Relations Center at California Institute of Technology and is a Fellow of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals. For over 30 years he has managed consulting projects world-wide dealing with business and product development, strategic alliances, technology management, and competitive intelligence. He is a frequent speaker on these subjects at executive seminars throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Japan. He received his Ph.D. from MIT's Sloan School.

Ralph Katz is professor of management in Northeastern University's College of Business, Boston, Massachusetts, and principal research associate at MIT's Sloan School. For more than 25 years, he has been carrying out management research, education and consulting on technology-based innovation, with particular interests in the management and motivation of technical professionals and high-performing project teams. …
